How Sweden’s Golf-ID decision exposes a bigger question for golf in Europe…

(seems a bit of a long read, only takes about 2 minutes, but makes you a lot wiser 😁 )

We have been following developments in Sweden for a while and last week an important outcome landed in the Swedish golf landscape. It was hardly a surprise:
The planned reduction of Golf-IDs has been put on hold while the Swedish Competition Authority completes its review.

Some context around this story:
The Swedish Golf Federation decided to introduce a national cap on how many Golf-IDs each club could register in the federation’s central handicap system. The measure was aimed especially at high-volume operators whose business model is to offer handicap and flexible access packages to large numbers of golfers.
The cap was set as one fixed maximum per facility, the same across the country, rather than based on local demand, capacity or business strategy.
