(November 4, 2013) Club Car, the world’s largest manufacturer of small-wheel, zero-emissions electric vehicles, has launched a new charging system which is 10% more efficient than its previous PD3 model and allows for better connectivity between the charger, the car and the controller.
The new system – named ERIC – reaches efficiency levels of 91% as a result of its intelligent algorithm that modifies the charge cycle depending on the car batteries’ needs, significantly reducing charging costs.
It is the first charger that has an operating range of 85 to 270 volts, making it the only true worldwide charger. Its two-stage output provides more robust protection against voltage variations, better accommodating voltage spikes and sags.
ERIC stands for:
- Efficiency – it provides the market’s highest efficiency levels
- Reliability – the robustness of the charger enables it to withstand extreme temperatures, weather conditions and daily wear and tear
- Intelligence – its smart charging algorithm allows the batteries to dictate how much electricity is needed to reach a full charge
- Connectivity – new external USB port enables leading-edge two-way communication between the charger, the car and the controller
Advanced charge monitoring capabilities provide both audible and visual indications of charging status and battery state of charge, allowing controllers to optimise battery lifespan.
“Our new ERIC charging system represents a step-change in what we can now offer golf courses, clubs and resorts. “Not only does it provide unrivalled features, functionality and benefits, it also helps reduce operating costs, underlining Club Car’s reputation as a global leader of technical innovation,” commented David Woodward, Product Manager – Precedent, Club Car.
“The ERIC charger is the only one currently available on the market with an external USB port that enables smart two-way communication.
“The USB port permits the controller to upload system updates and ensure latest technological advances are being utilised.
“It also allows users to download charger data to a Thumb Drive for status/condition monitoring and analysis by our Technical Services team,” he added.
Club Car’s new ERIC charger is also much smaller and lighter than its predecessor, weighing only 8lbs/3.6kg instead of the 22lbs/10kg of the PD3 charger.
Its sealed aluminium housing is also more durable, enabling it to better withstand dust, humidity and water, as well as temperatures as extreme as -40°C and 65°C. In addition, the system is fitted with external AC and DC plugs, which can easily be replaced if damaged.
